Pakistan Reopens Kartarpur Corridor As COVID-19 Situation Improves

Pakistan has reopened the Kartarpur Corridor as the overall situation of the COVID-19 pandemic improves. The ministry of the religious affairs issued the notification and directed to immediately reopen the corridor for the visitors. 

Inauguration of kartarpur Corridor

The kartarpur holds significance for the Sikhs as the founder of the Sikhism, Baba Guru Nanak Shahib had spent the last 18 years of his life in the Kartarpur. It is the holiest place for Sikhs from all over the globe. Despite the decades of the rivalry between Pakistan and India the Prime Minister Imran Khan inaugurated the corridor on 10th November 2019. 

Bilateral Agreement Between Pakistan And India

According to the bilateral agreement made between India and Pakistan in 2019, the Indian visitors are allowed to visit the corridor from dawn to dusk. They are not permitted to spend the night in the Karatarpur Corridor. Similarly, the local visitors can also come every day. In March the authorities imposed the ban to visit the Gurdwara Darbar Sahib in Kartarpur because of the spread of the coronavirus. Later in June, the government of Pakistan allowed to reopen it briefly to offer the rituals of the Maharaja Ranjit Singh's death anniversary. But at that time India rejected this offer and did not open the corridor from its side.
