He highlighted that sticking to the appointment dates is crucial to ensure the smooth organization of the pilgrimage. Al-Bassami also assured that the available number of appointments is sufficient.

It is quite relevant to mention that this Ramadan season has witnessed one of the highest influx of Umrah pilgrims from around the world. The deadlock of Covid is causing many Umrah pilgrims to make their Umrah plan this year after a long wait due to lockdowns.

There has also been doubts that can the appointment system for Umrah really accommodate as much pilgrims that are aspiring to perform Umrah. The problem is two-fold as the Umrah packages prices are skyrocketing and at the same time, the doubts in getting an ideal appointment for Umrah timing are making things difficult for thousands of pilgrims.

Speaking at a press conference of the commanders of the Umrah security forces in Makkah, Al-Bassami informed that the entire mataf has been allocated to the pilgrims, in coordination with the General Presidency for the Affairs of the Two Holy Mosques. He stated that the first floor, third Saudi expansion, and external courtyards of the Grand Mosque, as well as the roof of mataf, have been allocated for worshipers this year.

Al-Bassami mentioned that the entry and exit passages of the Grand Mosque have been reorganized to ensure maximum safety. He added that the First Ring Road would be fully utilized to implement crowd management mechanisms and separate vehicles from pedestrians.

Al-Bassami also announced the readiness of the Umrah security plans for implementation, starting from the first day of Ramadan, with the support and guidance of Minister of Interior Prince Abdulaziz bin Saud bin Naif. He warned that the law would be strictly applied to the perpetrators of negative phenomena, especially beggars, as the Grand Mosque and its squares were designated solely for worship.

Al-Faraj, the Acting Director of Civil Defense, announced the completion of security and safety plans to receive pilgrims and visitors to the Grand Mosque during Ramadan. He mentioned that the General Directorate of Civil Defense carried out approximately 5000 inspection tours during the last two months to ensure the completion of necessary permits and other requirements for residences and facilities used by pilgrims.
