New Schengen Visa Fee 

The Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs has officially confirmed the 12.5% hike in the Schengen visa fees for this year. Starting from 11th June 2024, Schengen visa fee 2024 will rise from 80 EUR to 90 EUR, while for the children between the ages of six and twelve this fee will increase from 40 EUR to 45 EUR. The previous increase in the fees for Schengen visas happened in February 2020, and it was from 60 EUR to EUR 80.
 

Why Schengen Visa Fees Increased?

The decision to increase Schengen visa fees follows a mandatory review of EU visa fees outlined in the Schengen Visa Code, conducted in December 2023. This crucial review is conducted once in every three years. It assesses various factors including, inflation rates and civil service salaries. These economic factors have been stated by EU the reason of the Schengen visa fee hike. This significant fee hike aims to maintain the efficiency and sustainability of visa processing. In spite of the previous visa fee increase, demand for the Schengen short-stay visas remained strong. With over 10.3 million applications received last year, marking a notable 37% increase from the year 2022. However, this figure is still small in front of the peak demand observed in 2019, when the Schengen area received almost 17 million visa applications.
