The number of Umrah pilgrims varies from year to year. The number of Umrah visas issued by the Saudi Arabian government, which is a good indicator of the number of Umrah pilgrims, has varied greatly in recent years. The number of Umrah visas issued by Saudi Arabia reached its peak in 2015, with over 8 million visas issued. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the number of Umrah visas issued dropped significantly in 2020 and 2021. Saudi Arabia suspended Umrah pilgrimage from March 2020 till the end of that year and re-opened it in a limited capacity in January 2021.
