As one of the biggest aviation events of the world begins in Istanbul, thousands of technology and aerospace enthusiasts gathered at Ataturk Airport on Tuesday.
TEKNOFEST is a six day event which is hosting a variety of activities including air shows with warplanes, helicopters & unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), competitions, summits, seminars, and fairs. At the beginning of the opening ceremony, fighter jets of Azerbaijan and the Turkish air forces positioned on an astounding coordinate air show over Bosporus of Istanbul. MiG-29 aircraft of the Azerbaijani air force and F-16 & F-4 jets of an aerobatics display team of the Turkish air force, SOLOTÜRK had taken a part in this air show. Prior to the main event, some technology competitions were being held already for the 2021 edition of this tech event. New ideas and new inventions that take part in moving the world forward emanates from youth and start-ups, said the chair of the event's organizer, Selçuk Bayraktar. He said that we must enlarge our start-ups and also support them. He further underlines that these days, leading global media outlets are talking about Turkish startups. While addressing the youth he said that do not let the obstacles come your way to discourage you. However, the interest in the event has been increasing by the year, said Mustafa Varank, Minister of Industry and Technology. On showing the cutting-edge technology and defense products such as an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), Aksungur, and the nation’s first homegrown multifunctional helicopter, Gökbey. Varank stressed that rather than being a consumer Turkey should be a production house for critical technologies. While mentioning the flying cars, he said that the size of the flying cars market will touch $320 billion (TL 2.77 trillion) by 2030. Varank also added that as the international press is speaking about the UVA success of Turkey, they will also mention the success of the country’s flying cars, autonomous vehicles, and unmanned underwater vehicles in the coming years. 
 
                                              
 
During TEKNOFEST 2019, a flying car prototype, Cezeri, had been introduced by Baykar, one of the leading defense and technology firms in Turkey. Organized by the Industry and Technology Ministry and T3 Foundation, Teknofest is held in various cities of Turkey in even years, and in odd years it is held in the metropolis of Istanbul. 
 
Bayraktar told reporters on Monday that over 200,000 students of different 45 teams applied for competitions in the 2021 edition of Teknofest. However, the number of competitors is increasing from the previous three years. He noted that we have received 20,000, 50,000, and 100,000 applications in the first, second, and third years respectively. While keeping in view the precautionary measures of the pandemic, it is decided that around 100,000 visitors will be allowed to stay in an area of 450,000 square meters at the same time.  Due to pandemic measures, last year the event was organized virtually in Southern Gaziantep province. In 2019, around 1.72 million people attended the Teknofest event in Istanbul.
